
Bowman and McClain's efforts not enough as Gators fall to Panthers
Albany, NY –The Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy hosted the Sage Colleges' women's basketball team on Tuesday night in a battle of New Scotland Avenue. The host Panthers tallied a 66-59 win to improve to 14-3 on the season, while riding a three-game win streak. The loss puts Sage at 7-13 on the season.
ACP held a 36-22 lead at the break and the Gators went on a 12-2 run to open the first four minutes of the second half and pulled within four points, 38-34.
The Gators tied the action at 50-50 at the 6:28 mark as rookie guard Jackie Leslie (Auburn, NY/Skaneatles) hit a three-pointer. After a tie once again at 52-52, the Panthers took a 56-52 lead on baskets from junior Megan Serley (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) and Kristen McKeel (Massena, NY/Massena Central).
The Panthers finished the game on a 14-7 run to collect the victory as senior center Alyson Johnson (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) made both of her free throws at 0:25 to put the Panthers up 66-59, a score that would hold up as she led all scorers with her 16 points. For the game, ACP shot 84.4% from the free throw line as they made 27 of 32 shots from the charity stripe. ACP had four players finish in double-digits as Schooley and sophomore Taylor Sullivan (Troy, NY/Hoosic Valley) each had 13 points, followed by 12 points from junior Kelsey Johnson (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy).
Sophomore guards Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) and Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) each finished in double digits for the Gators. Bowman had 15 points, while McClain finished with 11 points.
The Gators will be back in action on February 7 when they host Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference contest to be held at the Neff Center. First tip is set for 7 p.m.
