
Gators fall to top seeded MSMC, 55-45
Newburgh, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team travelled to Mt. St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon. The host Knights posted the 55-45 victory to improve to a league-leading 11-1 in the Skyline and 14-7 overall. Sage drops to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
Sage held a 25-22 lead at the break as they held the Knights to a 25.9% FG% and held a 21-18 edge on the boards. Sophomore guard Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) had nine first half points to pace the Gators and finished the game with 14 points.
MSMC tied the action in the second half at 12:49 (32-32). The two teams exchanged baskets and after the sixth tie of the game (37-37, 8:48), the Knights would go on a 7-2 run over the next three minutes and led 44-39. Sage fought back and pulled within two, down 44-42 at 5:22 as McClain hit a clutch three pointer. The Knights took control and the Gators were unable to cut the lead down the stretch.
Sage's junior guard Erica Houle (Latham, NY/Shaker) tallied nine points for the Gators, sophomore center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) added seven points and seven rebounds with three blocked shots.
MSMC's Rottisha Lewis led the Knights with his 14 points, while the team had four players finish in double-digit scoring en route to the team's ninth straight win.
The Gators will be back in action on February 5 when they travel to nearby Albany College of Pharmacy for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
