
Sage falls at the hands of MSMC on Saturday
Albany, NY –The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Knights of Mt. St. Mary College on Saturday afternoon in the Kahl Gym in a Skyline Conference contest. The Knights tallied a 52-33 win over Sage to improve to 9-7 overall and 6-1 in the league, while the loss puts Sage at 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the Skyline.
MSMC held a 26-13 lead at the break as junior forward Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) had nine of her game-high 17 points in the first stanza. By game's end she was 8-15 from the floor and had nine rebounds with a pair of blocks. Senior guard Becky Metzger (Point Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) had 12 rebounds on the afternoon, while handing out three assists with two steals.
Sophomore forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, NY/JFK Catholic) netted eight points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Knights as they held a 54-38 edge on the boards over the Gators.
Sage's sophomore guard Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) finished with a team-best 10 points, while adding three assists and five steals. Sophomore center Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) had seven points with 12 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Junior forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) and rookie Sara Tironi (Cambridge, NY/Cambridge Central) each had five points for Sage, while Martin had a pair of blocked shots in the action.
The Gators will be back in action January 22 when they travel to SUNY-Old Westbury for a 5 p.m. Skyline Conference contest. Mt. St. Mary College hosts Purchase College on January 22 in a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference contest.
