ONEONTA, N.Y. – Russell Sage College junior pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) threw a no-hitter in game one of this afternoon's Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Hartwick. The lone Hawk to reach base on the right-hander came via a walk in the first-inning. Madore (7-7), who no-hit Keuka on Saturday, tallied 14 strikeouts during the 5-0 win.
"We are very proud of Leah for another no hitter in back-to-back conference game starts," said Head Coach Stephanie McKay. "She continues to show her dominance for us in the circle while our defense continues to get better behind her. I'm very happy with a sweep going into this weekend as we face two new opponents for us in the Empire 8."
The opener was scoreless until the Gators (12-18/8-6 E8), now winners of five-straight, took control with a four-run fifth.
Sophomore infielders Annalise Tyler (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), and Allison Kenyon (Mechanicville, NY/Mechanicville) and junior infielder Ciana Santana (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) each had RBI singles during the rally.
In the second game, RSC got out to a 7-0 lead of what became a 7-2 road victory.
Tyler went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored to pace the Gators. She went a combined 5-for-8 with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI during the twinbill at Hartwick (6-24/1-3 E8), playing its first season since 2006. Tyler currently has 44 hits, second-most in the Conference.
Junior catcher Emma Heartquist (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) added a 3-for-4 effort, while outfielder Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse) went 2-for-2 with three RBI, a triple, and two runs scored. The triple was the sophomore's eighth of the spring, breaking the program's single-season record of seven set by Tanya Beiswenger in 1991. Julian also tops the E8 in the category.
Looking ahead, RSC is slated to host SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon.
