HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Russell Sage College Softball offense exploded to sweep this afternoon's doubleheader at Houghton. The Gators totaled 27 runs on 24 hits to win by scores of 8-0 and 19-2.
Sophomore Bella Julian (Cicero, NY/Cicero North-Syracuse) led the RSC bats with a 5-for-7 afternoon. The outfielder tallied four runs scored and four RBI during the pair of five-inning Empire 8 Conference victories.
Junior pitcher Leah Madore (Williamsville, VT/Brattleboro Union) and freshman pitcher Alina Ferguson (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) made the run support standup. In the opener, Madore, the RSC career leader for strikeouts, allowed just one hit and fanned 10 Highlanders (5-15/0-6 E8) in the shutout win (5-4). Ferguson permitted four hits and two earned runs to secure her first collegiate victory (1-5).
RSC (7-13/3-1 E8) is scheduled to play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at Alfred.
