Johnson Receives Honorable Mention for the USILA All-American Team
LOUISVILLE– Russell Sage College Men’s Lacrosse junior Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) received an honorable mention for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Team.
LOUISVILLE– Russell Sage College Men's Lacrosse junior Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) received an honorable mention for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Team.
The long-stick midfielder/defender, the first Gator to garner All-American honors, totaled eight points on six goals and two assists. The first-team All-Empire 8 Conference selection closed ranked second on the circuit with 33 caused turnovers. His averages of 2.06 caused turnovers and 4.25 groundballs were good for fourth and fifth respectively in the Conference.
"What a huge honor for Joe to be the first All-American in our young program's history," said head coach Ryan Lanigan. "He has set the bar on and off the field of what it means to an RSC Men's Lacrosse player. One day in the future, I hope we have numerous alumni to receive this honor and we can look back and say that Joe was one of the ones to pave the way. It's been an honor to coach him and we are excited to have him back for one more season in Gator green."
Johnson, now a three-time All-E8 pick, made the April 16th USILA D3 Team of the Week for his performance in helping the Gators defeat Utica for the first time on April 13. Johnson, who finished the season as the program's career leader with 80 caused turnovers and ranks second among Gators with 168 career groundballs, registered six caused turnovers and five groundballs as RSC held the visiting Pioneers scoreless for 25:35 spanning the second, third, and fourth quarters in the 16-7 home win.
RSC went 6-10 overall, 2-4 in the E8, and narrowly missed out on the fourth and final spot in the E8 Championship Tournament.
