
Second half rally not enough as Sage falls to Maritime
Kings Point, NY-- The Sage Colleges' women's lacrosse team travelled to Maritime College for a Skyline Conference match on Wednesday night. The host Privateers collected an 18-12 win to improve to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference. Sage drops to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the Skyline Conference.
Maritime held an 11-4 edge at the break, but the Gators racked up eight second half goals to outscore the Privateers, 8-7 in the second stanza.
Sage's junior midfielder Alexa Veeder (Earlton, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) poured in a team-best seven goals and an assist in the action. Veeder leads Sage this season with her 37 goals and five assists for an active school-record 42 points this year.
Sophomore midfielder Alayna Kaiser (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) added three goals and an assist for the Gators and elevates her season efforts to include 14 goals and four assists for 18 points, which is second in the team's scoring race.
Maritime's Catherine Brady added six goals and an assist while Kristen Saporito finished with five goals in the action.
Sage's senior goalie Ginelle Butler (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) made her third start of the season in goal for the Gators. She recorded a season-high 10 saves, but suffered the loss as she is now 0-3 in goal.
Maritime's Laura Palino turned away 11 shots in the match with 12 goals allowed.
Sage returns to action on April 21 travelling to Farmingdale State for a 1 p.m. Skyline Conference match.
