ALBANY, N.Y. – Russell Sage College Men's Lacrosse senior Joe Johnson (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) received an honorable mention for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American Team for the second-consecutive spring. The long-stick midfielder was also chosen to play in the prestigious 2025 USILA Senior All-Star Game on Friday, May 23 at Roger Williams University in Providence, R.I. The Division III game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
Johnson, a first-team All-Empire 8 Conference pick, caused 32 turnovers, and gathered 86 groundballs, the second-highest total in a season by an RSC player. The marks ranked second and fourth-best in the Conference at the time of All-E8 voting. The co-captain, the first Gator ever to earn first-team All-E8 honors a season ago, added more offense to his game this spring, tallying 26 points on 23 goals and three assists.
"I am so incredibly proud of Joe's efforts this season that put him in a place to be honored as a North/South All-Star and All-American, " said Head Coach Erich Skelly. "His hard work and dedication to his craft is unmatched amongst his peers."
He finished his spring with program career records of 112 caused turnovers and 1.84 caused turnovers per-game. The senior, who occupies the top-three spots in the RSC record book for caused turnovers in a season, ranks second all-time with 254 groundballs. He averaged a school record 4.16 groundballs per-game and has three of the top-five marks for groundballs in a season by a Gator.
"Joe's grit and determination are what have led him to this success," continued Skelly. "He is extremely coachable and driven to be the best player and person he can be. Joe is a direct representation of what it means to be a Sage Gator!"
Johnson, selected for the USILA D3 Team of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 16, scored four goals in a game twice, secured eight groundballs three times, and caused multiple opponent turnovers in 12 of the 17 contests that RSC played this spring.
