Espinal and Stearns Honored as All-Region Performers.
Russell Sage College Baseball juniors Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendahowa) and Jeff Stearns (Vergennes, VT/Vergennes Union) were both named to ABCA All-Region teams.
ALBANY, NY - Russell Sage College Baseball juniors Brendan Espinal (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendahowa) and Jeff Stearns (Vergennes, VT/Vergennes Union) were both named to ABCA All-Region teams. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America & Coach of the Year Committee.
Espinal was also named to d3baseball.com's All-Region First-Team. Players were nominated by their school's Athletic Communications department and voted on by the D3baseball.com staff and its contributors.
Espinal was named to the first team by both the ABCA and D3baseball.com. The junior was named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Year and closed the regular season atop the Conference in batting average (.453), on-base percentage (.551) and on-base plus slugging (1.239).
Stearns was honored on the second team after his record setting season. The infielder hit a program best ten homeruns and was named to the All-Empire 8 Conference First Team. He commenced the playoffs tops in the E8 in homers (10), RBI (52), slugging percentage (.725), while ranking second to Espinal in batting average (.413), on-base percentage (.512), and OPS (1.237).
