52 Sage Student-Athletes honored by E8; 15 Sage Teams also saluted for academic excellence!
Hilton, NY- The Sage Colleges' had 52 student-athletes honored for their efforts in the classroom for the Spring of 2020 with the release of the Empire 8 Presidents' List. A grand total of 1,040 student-athletes from the league's membership were recognized for their excellence in the classroom this past semester with the President's List distinction, one of most prestigious honors the conference recognizes.
Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester, while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, "Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference."
The average GPA among the conference's 3,232 student-athletes was a league-record 3.41, while eight institutions' student-athletes posted an average GPA of greater than 3.25. Four institutions student-athletes recorded an average GPA of greater than 3.40, while the league also boasts record 147 teams that were also saluted with a 3.2 team GPA or greater. Additionally, all eight institutions had at least 12 teams recognized; five had at least 18 teams honored.
"These young men and women embody all that it means to be a student-athlete," said Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano. "To be a highly-dedicated athlete, pursue interests outside of sport and earn a 3.75 GPA or higher is truly a remarkable accomplishment."
