Sage women triumph over Purchase, 79-49
Albany, NY--- The Sage Colleges' women's basketball team hosted the Panthers of Purchase College on Wednesday evening in the Kahl Center for the team's Skyline Conference home opener. The Gators collected the 79-49 win to extend its win streak to two games and is now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline Conference. Purchase drops to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Sage held a 31-18 edge at the break as rookie Megan Bowman (Saranac, NY/Saranac) led the way with 10 points. Junior Carly Vallee (East Greenbush, NY/Catholic Central) had six first-half points as well with a pair of three-points. The Gators made five shots from three point range in the first half, while holding the Panthers to an 0-3 effort from down town. The teams were close as Sage held a 17-16 lead at 8:36 before the Gators erupted for a 14-2 run to close the half. Sage opened the second half on a 8-1 run and owned a 39-19 lead at 16:30.
Senior Alyssa Guido (Cliffside Park, NY/Cliffside) had five points in the first half, while sophomore Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) had six boards, all defensive in the first stanza of play.
By game's end, Bowman finished with a career-high 17 points, while rookie Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY/Colonie Central) tallied 13 rebounds. Freshman Krysta Vanacore (Poughkeepsie, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) added a personal-best 12 points as well. Sophomore forward Chelsea Martin (Davenport, NY/Jefferson Central) added 10 points for the Gators as they made 1o threes on the night.
Rachel Perrone tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double for the Panthers, while Guido added 12 points with eight boards. Sophomore Jess Lindsay (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) finished with 10 points.
The Gators will travel to Bard College on December 10 for a 2 p.m. non-conference match-up. Purchase College will be off until the new year when they host Manhattanville College in a non-conference game on January 4 at 6 p.m.
