Bio
A graduate of Beacon High School, Thomas (TJ) Zehner arrived at Sage in 2012 after a stellar scholastic career. In his first season with the Gators he earned numerous awards, including a selection to the 2012 Skyline Conference All-Start Second Team. Named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week twice in 2012, he was named to the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll five times in 2012. He capped the season with a 12-4-1 record in goal and boasted a 0.78 GAA after playing in 18 games with seven shutouts. Zehner's 12 wins are the most by any goalie in Sage single-season history. His 74 saves, .851 save percentage and .78 GAA put him at second in Sage single-season history. The keeper's 7 shutouts are the most by any goalie in a single-season at Sage. At season’s end, he was named the team’s Gator award winner as Most Valuable Player.
After experiencing a shortened season due to injury, Zehner started 7 games in goal with 27 saves. He was 2-1-2 with 3 shutouts. Zehner averaged 0.57 GAA and had a .871 save percentage. While his season was short, his 24 saves puts him at seventh in Sage all-time single-season saves and first in single-season save percentage and GAA. During this season, Sage was named the Skyline Conference regular-season champions, while collecting the squad’s third straight ECAC Tournament appearance.
Zehner was named a team captain for the 2014 season. As a junior, Zehner started all 18 games with 73 saves, the third most in a single-season in Sage history. A 9-8-1 record, he averaged 1.42 GAA, the seventh highest in Sage single-season history. His 9 wins are the second most in Sage single-season history. The keeper had a .753 save percentage, the sixth highest in Sage single-season history, and 3 shutouts. Zehner was named to the Skyline Conference First Team and the ECAC Division III Metro Second Team.
On his career, he owns a 24-13-4 record with 12 shutouts. He sports a 1.01 GAA with 41 goals allowed in 3,656:40 minutes of service in 43 outings. He starts the 2015 campaign with 174 career saves and holds the record for most saves, while ranking first with his GAA, wins (24), and shutouts (12), while is the most games played goalie in school history.
Over the summer of 2014, he completed his first season as a member of the NJ LUSO Parma PDL team. He is the first Sage men’s soccer player to compete in the United Soccer League's Premier Development League. In his first season, Zehner earned six starts in goal, gaining valuable experience at a very competitive level of play.
A three-year team captain in high school, Zehner was also a two-time first team all-league pick in high school, while also earning a spot on the Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star First Team.
A physical education major at Sage, he was an honor roll in high school and plans on pursuing a career as a physical therapist. He is the son of Steven Zehner and Alison Chesnick. Zehner was named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll for his effort in the classroom.
